Introduction

To use NASA SVS (Scientific Visualization Studio), you require a browser capable of using the Web Mapping Service (WMS). A list of recommended browsers will be listed here.

Using World Wind & NASA SVS

World Wind supports NASA SVS natively. You can access it by going under the menu bar at the top, choosing Library > Animated Earth. Or, just press F1 on your keyboard to active the browser.

This brings up another panel in the center of the screen called the Animated Earth Manager.

To choose an item, select it's name from the top and World Wind will automatically rotate and center the animation in view.

If an item has a + with a box around it, click it to expand the list and browse the contents inside. There may be multiple different layers available within.

Play: to begin downloading animations
Pause: To freeze the current animation. (World Wind will continue to download the set of animation)
Advance Frame: the animation one frame forward and back when paused.
Speed Control: to speed up or down the play back of animation. Computer performance may affect speed of animation.

NASA SVS (Scientific Visualization Studio) comes from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The Principal investigator is Dr. Horace Mitchell. Software engineering and animation assembly are by Eric Sokolowsky and other members of Dr. Mitchell's visualization team.
