
Streaming Multimedia Testbed
The NASA Multimedia TestBed provides an experimental infrastructure to transmit live and archived (On demand) video and audio over the Internet. Using servers and personal computers already in place at several of the NASA centers, the multimedia testbed is now capable of sending 2000 individuals live, interactive video content.
Examples of its use:
A teachers conference in Washington DC was seen by teachers is several other states.
Students saw NASA robots explore remote deserts and shipwrecks north of the Arctic Circle.
Schools in Paris, France, Washington, D.C and Brooklyn N.Y. participated in a live bilingual demonstration of geography software dignitaries present included First Lady Hilary Rodham Clinton, NASA Administrator Dan Goldin, and the French United Nations Ambassador.
Masters level students can be taught robotics by NASA experts regardless of their location.
Thousands of members of the general public can watch significant NASA events as they happen.
NASA sponsored robotics competitions can be watched by a widely dispersed audience.
