Venus

View Venus in Celestia

Venus is planet number two
Named for the goddess of love
She is surrounded by clouds colored gold
Her surface is way hotter
Than your oven or stove!

Why is the surface of Venus ever so hot?
Is it the greenhouse effect gone wild?

The Sun’s radiation
Through the clouds does shine
Then cannot reflect away
Held in by those clouds
Keeping the heat to continue its stay

It’s the clouds and nearness to Sol
That make the surface of Venus
The hottest place of all
You don’t have to be a genius!

Try to fly through these clouds
You’ll be in for a ride!
You’ll be tossed by hurricane winds
You’ll see lightning bolts collide!

Arrive safely below
Her hurricane clouds colored gold
Full of CO2 and sulfuric acid rain
You’ll see what only NASA can show
A place you would never call plain

See Venus on the horizon
From right here on good old Earth
If the Sun is starting to set
You should be able to see her soon!
Venus is often the brightest spot in the sky
Second only to our lovely Moon

Venus is even more curious yet
She spins in the opposite way
From the west to the east
Her Sun rises and sets
Would that be a backwards day?

Before you fly off to visit Venus
You would be wise to learn
Although a year on Venus
Is only 225 Earth days long
A Venus day is much longer
Than a Venus year
Just ONE DAY on Venus
Takes 243 Earth days, Oh dear!
