Combining NASA Science and the Web --
Glenn Learning Technologies Now Online with Several Classroom Tools
|
Educators and students take note: If science is your game, Glenn Learning Technologies is your place on the Web.
NASA's Glenn Research Center, long a pioneer in scientific research and development for the US space agency, now brings its wealth of data to the Internet, and classrooms everywhere can benefit!
Glenn Learning Technologies is located online at http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/
Among the many interesting, educational, and FUN items you'll find on the Glenn Learning Technologies Web site:
Proficiency-Building Skills. Divided into the subject areas of aeronautics, physical science, Earth science and space, and life sciences, this section contains a complete list of resources -- all of them available on the Internet -- that meet Grade 9 Proficiency Outcomes. Last year, middle school teachers selected the top Web sites they believed would best help them in science instruction. The results are here, with links to each.
Programs for Teachers. Teachers are students, too, and Glenn Learning Technologies offers several ways for instructors to stay on top of their game. From distance learning projects to regional summer computer training to Lewis' own Classroom of Excellence, science teachers can polish their skills using today's technology.
Education through Aeronautics. Classroom activities abound in this high-flying section. Here, students can learn to build their own wind tunnels, download software for an interactive flow simulator, or find out about aeronautics-based experiments, such as rocket launches, and much, much more.
Airplane Aerodynamics. Just how do they get those big things to fly anyway? This section was prepared at NASA Glenn to provide background information for secondary math and science teachers on the basic aerodynamics of airplanes. Students of all ages will enjoy this enlightening info, too.
Teacher Projects. Want to see what other K-12 educators have built, projects that demonstrate aeronautics principles? A list of ready-for-the-classroom projects resides here, suitable for elementary, middle/junior, and high schools.
Free Software. Download and learn from this software, which features an interactive flow simulator and several lessons on basic aerodynamics.
And more. Keep current on educator advances through the site's announcement list, and see what awards Lewis Learning Technologies has received from its Web fans.
All this is at your fingertips and located at http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/
Glenn Learning Technologies is part of NASA's Learning Technologies Project, a national initiative that brings US space agency technology to classrooms via the Internet.
